Special VariaClash Preview Comic!

A 7 page comic to promote my upcoming game project, VariaClash! This will serve as the basis for the story-mode opening cut-scene (though the final two pages will probably be different for each character).

Drawn on paper (with pencils, then inked with brush-pens and Sharpies), then vectorized with Inkscape, and lettered and half-toned in Krita!

Happy Holidays! Merry Xmas with the Krampus!

'Tis the season! Just thought I'd draw up a quick little picture of my favorite Christmas mascot, the Krampus! Here he is getting ready to jump down the chimney and discipline some less-then-well-behaved children that aren't getting much from Santa.

Drawn on paper, with pencils, sharpies, and brush pens, colored in Krita!

Anyway, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Io Saturnalia, Cool Yule, a Festive Winter Solstice, and Season's Greetings to all of you out there! And Happy (late) Chanukah, Kwanzaa, and anything else someone might celebrate this festive time of year!

Halloween Gallery: Horror of Truckula

Hope everyone's having a great Halloween season! This week, I present you with the rig of darkness, the most ghoulish ride on wheels, the legendary vampire truck of nightmares, TRUCKULA!!!!

Maybe I should have Olivia Nightshade battle Truckula sometime...

Halloween Gallery: Be the Chupacabra!

Hello ghoul-fans! For this week's Halloween treat I wanted to think outside the box and so I went for a Chupacabra! I tried to combine the older "spiked alien reptile" (apparently inspired by the 1990s schlock-film species) depiction of this famous monster with the currently more popular "scaly blue dog" depiction (which is just wolves and coyotes with really bad mange attacking livestock). How'd I do?

I wanted to reference the small bird that according to an old-wives-tale stole milk from mother goats, and was the origin of the term "Chupacabra" (according to an old episode of Bonanza), but I couldn't think of a good way to do it. At least not in a single illustration...stay tuned.

And remember, don't just be the G.O.A.T. Be the Chupacabra!

Halloween Gallery: Howl of the Werewolf!

Hello again, Halloween fans! This week's Halloween treat is a nice howling werewolf! Some of you might remember a little animation sequence I did of a man transforming into his wolf-man form. But, it's been so long since I drew that and my drawing skill have improved so much since then, I had to give a werewolf another shot (as just a still illustration this time).

Halloween Gallery: Alexandra the Witch

Hello everybody! It's that time of year again, and this year I have a few Halloween treats for you all each Wednesday of October so be sure to check back each week.

This week it's the adorable Alexandra the little witch posing with some jack-o-lanterns. In addition to being part of my Halloween Gallery, you'll also be able to see her in action in my upcoming indie fighting game Variaclash!

Fighting Game project update!

Big update about my game-project: "Variaclash".

All the fight mechanics are in, we got normals, specials, supers, ring-outs, counters, dodges, combos, etc. I'll be refining them as I go, but it's time to focus on character creation for awhile.

And, since I figured out how to Glaze animated GIFs (I really recommend anyone who posts art online look into Glaze), I just wanna show off some animations I've been doing for the first of many selectable characters, Captain Garbage!

"Some say he's the valiant superhero who defends the city from evil with the power of garbage. Others say he's a crazy trash-obsessed hobo who lives at the dump and thinks he's a superhero. Perhaps he's a bit of both..."

Moves (May be subject to change):
Trash-A-Rang: 🢀🢇🢃🢆🢂+P
Trash-Bash: 🢂🢃🢆+P
Trash-Dash: 🢃🢇🢀+K
Banana Peel: 🢃🢃+K
Double Knee Bash: 🢂+SK
Slide Kick: 🢆+SK
Dive-Chop: 🢆+SP (in air)

Hyper Attacks:

Halloween Gallery: CG Spider Model

Time for another Halloween entry. This time I decided to go ahead and make a fully animatable cel-shaded 3D model of a spooky spider. Might do some animation with it next year.

Halloween Gallery: Funnybones the Skeleton Jester!

It's that time of year again! And, it's been awhile since I unveiled a new straight up creepy character drawing for the Halloween Gallery (Ghoulery?), so here is my new creation: Funnybones the Skeleton Jester!

I'm actually thinking of doing a short comic or animated cartoon about him (maybe in time for next Halloween).

Box-Bot Boogie animated #1: Clowns Frowns and the Worst Burger in Town!

It's finally here! The Box-Bot Boogie animated special I promised years ago is finally available on my Newgrounds and YouTube channels and right here on this website!

  First Previous Next Latest

After presenting it as my thesis film for Temple University's Film and Media Arts program (Yes, I graduated!) and it's screening at the diamond screen film festival, I'm proud to present what I hope will be the first of several Box-Bot Boogie animated episodes.

I'm making a fighting game in Godot!

Been working on a fighting game project in the Godot game engine. Finally got together the basic template/structure for one. These two crash-dummy-like place-holder characters can kick, punch, jump, duck, throw, and perform unique special moves with the classic motion inputs. Plus they each have a life-bar that depletes as they take damage and a winner is declared when someone runs out of HP and is KO'd.

Now it's just a matter of creating characters and fleshing out the mechanics. I've got a sketchbook full of ideas!

Halloween Gallery: Nightmare Bug-Boy!

A little Halloween special using paper cut-outs in a 3D environment. A bunch of ghosts are terrified by a possessed trick-or-treater who chases them through a graveyard. This was my final for "Animation Workshop" (a class that focused more on traditional animation techniques rather than pure CG) this semester and I thought I'd do a fun little combination of paper cut-out animation in a semi-3D digital environment.

All the animation is real paper cut-outs, but they were scanned into the computer and combined with digital backgrounds in 3D space in Blender. My professor really liked the combination. Enjoy this year's Halloween Special!

Box-Bot Boogie: Animated Special Preview Video

Hey, I know it's been a long time since I updated anyone on the animated Box-Bot Boogie special that I promised years ago. Well, that's about to change! I'm pleased to announce that I'm finally working on the special as my BFA final project at Temple. This behind-the-scenes video above was presented at the "Soft-Where" exhibit at the Diamond Film Festival at the Temple University Performing Arts Center.

By the end of the next semester, I hope to have the whole special finished and ready to present! Frederick and Zoki are back!

Animation Workshop Tid-bits.

One of the cooler classes I have is "Animation Workshop" where we get to make short animations in all sorts of media. I have three exercises here to show you. The "Self Portrait" was traditionally animated on real paper. The "Raindrop on Leaf" was digitally drawn in Photoshop. And the "Lion Dance" was rotoscoped in Krita from a short video I took of a Lunar New Year event. Enjoy!

Halloween Gallery: Spooky Boy Meets Creepypasta

This was just a short intro to an illustrated podcast presentation about Creepypasta (another class project). I thought Halloween night would be a good time to share it, and I always like to post a little something on Halloween.

Happy Halloween all!

(Obviously, I have no claim to Slenderman or The Skin Taker which each belong to their respective creators.)

The Waiter

Or watch on Youtube

This was another class project, in this case my film-sound final. As such my assignment was to create all of the sound effects and ambiance myself (I even used bird-calls for the dinosaur sounds). As such, between that and the live-action short (my videography final) that was due the same day, the animation is kinda rough and not as good was "Wyrd Sisters" was. But I needed to meet my deadline and the assignment was about sound, and I think it's a fun idea. Basically, it randomly occurred to me one day that with their large size and stubby arms, a T-Rex would make a horrible waiter, so I thought I'd make a cartoon out of it. So I hope everyone enjoys it.

Abduct Me! (Live action short)

This was my final for Videography class this semester. I wasn't allowed to do a fully animated short this time, so I came up with a live-action short involving some CG shots and a CG character. It's about an alien who comes to Earth and finds a crazy UFO nut who's desperate to be abducted. I often joke about how if aliens are really abducting people, maybe I wouldn't mind that because things can be pretty terrible here. At the same time, who's to say things are any better on any other planet, and I'd hate to give up on Earth, so I decided this would be a fun idea to explore. Please enjoy!
